Privacy Policy

Basra Bay International Market & Deli, formerly International Market & Deli, is a family-owned market and deli at 580 Lighthouse Ave, Monterey, CA 93940. In this policy, “we” and “us” mean the store. The same family handles catering, including events at our sister café, International Cafe, 296 Lighthouse Ave, Unit C.

This policy covers this website and its forms. It doesn't cover the store itself, our social media pages, or other websites we link to.

Only what you give us, plus the basic technical information every website receives.

• Contact form: your name, email address, the topic you choose, your message, and your phone number if you add one.
• Catering form: your name and email address, your phone number if you add one, the event date, time, guest count and occasion, whether you want pickup, delivery or a table at International Cafe, a delivery address if you choose delivery, and any menu ideas, dietary needs, budget or notes you write in.
• Text-message consent: whether you ticked the text-message box, together with the mobile number you gave us.
• Technical information: when you send a form, we hold your IP address in memory for about a minute to stop spam. It isn't saved with your message. Our hosting provider keeps short-term logs, such as IP address, browser type and the page requested, to keep the site secure and running.

We never ask for payment card numbers on this website. Please don't send card numbers or passwords through the forms.

• To answer your message or inquiry by email or phone, or by text if you opted in.
• To plan, price and confirm catering, special orders and events.
• To keep a record of our conversations and orders, as any shop does.
• To keep the site and our customers safe from spam and abuse.

We don't use your information for advertising. Sending a form doesn't sign you up for marketing email.

The text-message box on our forms is optional and starts unchecked. You can send a form without it. It reads: “Yes, I agree to receive text messages from Basra Bay International Market & Deli.”

If you tick it, we may text you replies about your inquiry and occasional store updates at the number you gave us. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out at any time, or HELP for help. Consent is not a condition of purchase. The program terms are in our Terms of Use.

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. We give your number only to the service provider that delivers our texts, so it can send them. Text-message opt-in data and consent are not shared with anyone else.

We don't sell or rent personal information, and we don't share it for advertising.

• Our team: the family and staff at the market and International Cafe who answer messages and prepare orders.
• Service providers: the companies that host this website, store form submissions in a secure database, and deliver our text messages. They handle your information only to provide those services to us.
• When the law requires it: for example a valid legal request, or to protect someone's safety.
• If the business changes hands: customer records would pass to the new owner under the same protections.

This website doesn't set advertising or analytics cookies, and it doesn't use tracking pixels. Fonts and photos come from our own website and image servers.

The home and Visit pages include a map from Google Maps. When it loads, Google may set cookies and collect information under the Google Privacy Policy. Our address is written beside the map if you'd rather not use it.

Reviews on our home page are public Google reviews. Links to press articles, social media, review sites and International Cafe's website go to sites with their own privacy policies.

We don't track visitors across websites, so a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal has nothing to switch off here. We treat either signal as a request not to sell or share your information, which we don't do anyway.

We keep messages and catering inquiries as long as we need them to answer you, fill your order and keep normal business records. After that, we delete them. You can ask us to delete your information sooner. See Your choices and rights.

The site uses encrypted connections (HTTPS). Form submissions go to a private database that only the store and our service providers can reach. No system is perfect, but we work to keep your information safe.

• See, correct or delete: email hello@basrabay.com or call (831) 375-9451 to ask what we have about you, to fix it, or to delete it. We may ask you to write from the email address you used, so we know it's you. We'll answer within 45 days.
• Stop texts: reply STOP to any message.
• California residents: you have the right to know, correct and delete your personal information, and not to be treated differently for using those rights. We don't sell or share personal information, and we use dietary details you give us only to prepare your order. Under California's “Shine the Light” law, you may ask whether we share personal information with others for their direct marketing. We don't.

This website isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has sent us something, contact us and we'll delete it.

If we change this policy, we'll post the new version on this page and update the date at the top.
